Divemaster Course

Course Description: 

Through knowledge development sessions, exercises and water technique seminars, and through practical assessment, you will develop the skills to organize and direct a variety of diving activities. 

Topics and practical seminars include: 

•  The role and features of the PADI Divemaster: 

•  Supervise diving activities and assist with student divers. 

•  Diver safety and risk management. 

•  Programs directed by Divemasters and specialized techniques. 

•  The diving business and your professional career. 

•  Awareness about the diving environment. 

•  Organize and direct dives. 

•  Make a map of an open water dive site. 

•  Conduct diving briefings. 

•  Organize a search and recovery project and a deep dive. 

•  Lead a scuba review and a skin diver course. 

•  Assist with Discover Scuba Diving programs and guide Discover Local Diving programs. 

Your instructor can also offer you PADI Deep Diver and Search and Recovery Diver specialty courses along with your divemaster training to help you meet all requirements and expand your capabilities. 

Prerequisites and Requirements 

•  18 years or older 

•  Course prerequisites 

•  Rescue Diver, 40 logged dives, CPR and first aid certification within 24 months, medical clearance to dive 

•  Time commitment 

•  Approximately 50 hours   

As a dive professional, you will want to have all of your basic dive gear, including a dive computer, a dive knife, and at least two surface signaling devices. During hands-on exercises, such as underwater mapping and search and recovery, you will use a compass, floats, marker buoys, balloon lifts, and whiteboards. Your PADI Instructor can suggest additional equipment that will be useful throughout your diving career.
